most attackers are simply looking for any target they can break into

machines to send spam (bulk junk e-mail). More commonly, however,
attackers use automated processes to comprise a large number of
machines to use as a group in an attack.

like the idea that all of their e-mail and documents could be being
read by an unauthorized party.
