Links to Free Software
These links include free alternatives to various software
packages. All software on this page is free and/or open-source, and
they are usually better than their commercial counterparts.
FoxIt PDF Reader Alternative to Adobe Acrobat. This program is
very small in size and has no installer (download and run). It opens
in a fraction of the time that the Adobe Reader does. Though not as
powerful as the full (and expensive) Adobe product, it is sufficient
for most people.
Firefox Alternative to Internet Explorer. If you
are still using Microsoft's Internet Explorer, it is time to switch
to Firefox. In addition to safer web surfing, there are many
plug-ins you can install to enhance your surfing such as the Google
Toolbar.
PDF Creator Alternative to Adobe Acrobat. You can
use this to create your own PDF files. It can also be installed and
shared on a server and made available to network users. Though not
as powerful as the full (and expensive) Adobe product, it is
sufficient for most people.
QuickTime Alternative
Alternative to Apple's QuickTime. You can use this to play most
QuickTime movies. Includes Classic Media Player which is a great
alternative to Windows Media Player.
Real Alternative
Alternative to Real Player. You can use this to play most Real
Audio and Real Video movies and music. Includes Classic Media Player
which is a great alternative to Windows Media Player.
Many of
these free alternatives are written by people in their spare time.
If any accept donations, send them something. Every little bit
helps.
